Happy Father's Day OR Channeling my inner Ice Cube

Can't really quote any of the lyrics here, but "It Was A Good Day" comes to mind thinking of this year's Fathers Day. The kids are at that perfect age where:

1. They can do things for me.

2. I'm still a big deal to them.

The day started pretty early and went so late it felt like 3 days in one. My card was sweet like only homemade cards can be. Then my gift was a rose bush picked out from each kid. My favorite thing about our first house was the rose garden. We tried transplanting the one I planted when Noah was born but some things just don't move well. I have one failed attempt at roses at our new house but it failed. After 8 years though I'm ready for another go.

We sat outside under the willow until we were hungry then went to breakfast. The kids helped me fix my Jeep hoist and we took the top off. Topless Jeep ride to go visit Ann and Pops. Back home to FaceTime Dad, who had the good grace to say my tomatoes looked good before showing me his drool worthy plants. Early evening Magga and Jana showed up for a visit this week. The day ended with my new favorite thing. The U.S. Open in the Pacific Northwest. I mean, watching golf while the kids get themselves ready for bed? Yes please.

Highlight of the day was the kids playing baseball in the backyard. Jenna and I watched through the window for awhile before I had to capture some on video.

I really will have to up my Mothers Day game next year for Jenna.

Father's Day 2013

My Father's Day was more than enjoyable.  As always, the kids picked the gifts.  According to report, Cam wanted to give me a 'big picture' and Noah wanted to give me the day off.  With some creative Mommy-spin I got the most wonderful poster of the kids dressed up like me and a day on the lake.  Here's a pic of my poster and a pic with the kids.  There's also a whole photo album of the day on the lake. The day was made because Noah's finally old enough to sustain the idea of a day for daddy beyond 30 minutes.  Campbell of course just follows his lead.  All day long out of nowhere she'd run over and give me a kiss and wish me a happy daddy day. The day ended with a Facetime call to my dad.  Campbell told him all about the day. I keep telling her that's 'my daddy' but he just looks at me like I have three heads. "No that's Papaw!"

I hope everybody had a great "Daddy Day."

Happy Father's Day 2011

A guy and I were talking last week.  He and his wife are starting to think about kid's and he asked me how great it was.  My only response was it is everything you can imagine but this is not the week to ask because everyday I come home, Noah has paint on his hands.  He won't tell me what it's from, only 'it's a secret.' Finally, this morning I was given the fruits of his labor.  A blue box he painted for me. Inside was written, "I love you because..." and a bunch of notes.  Jenna swears he came up them all without prompting.  I also got a new apron with a new moniker that was pretty clever. Highlight of the day was hitting golf balls in the yard beside the trampoline while the kids jumped with a sprinkler on.  Noah singing with VBS at church was cool too.  All around great day.

Happy day to all the father's out there, especially my own.  I love you man.  Can't wait to tee it up soon.
